The first road bridge between Russia and China, built across the border Amur river near the cities of Blagoveshchensk and Heihe, will be put into operation after the restrictions imposed due to coronavirus are lifted. The bridge between Russia and China has been under construction since December 2016 in the Amur region. The Chinese and Russian parts of the bridge were docked on May 31, 2019. The bridge docking point coincides with the border of two countries – in the middle of the Amur River. At the end of November 2019, the main stages of construction of the Russian part were completed. The decision to build the bridge was made by Russia and China in the late 90s of the last century, but for various reasons, construction was always postponed.
The length of the bridge itself is more than a kilometer, the total length of the crossing is 20 kilometers, it includes 6 kilometers of road in China and 13 kilometers of access roads in Russia, including a 278-meter bridge over the Kanikurgan channel. The bridge connects the village of Kanikurgan, Blagoveshchensk district, and the village of Changfa, Heihe urban district, Heilongjiang province. After commissioning in 2020, the passenger traffic will be about 5.5 thousand people per day.
